U-Man Zoo was formed in 1994 to create Motorcity, a performance conducted upon cars suspended from trees. Over the past nine years the company has proceeded to make a series of original and distinctive works at diverse locations around its home in West Wales, working with a core membership of artists drawn from six nations and a broad range of artistic practice. This 'zoo', energised by diversity and the spirit of exchange, seeks to make extraordinary encounters in unorthodox places, often inspired by location and object and delivered with characteristic challenge, warmth and wit. In 2001 the company made its international debut with the Wardrobes Residency, co-produced with Project Arts, Dublin. This three week collaboration with over thirty Irish artists developed a series of original works existing between theatre, performance, installation, live and social art, all stemming from the single provocation of the wardrobe as resonant object. U-Man Zoo is currently engaged in the development and national/international
presentation of the Water Banquet: a series of performance and
installation works derived from the placement and animation of an extraordinary
table of water, thirty feet long and six feet wide. For further information
